Influencing Policy

Waste and resource management is driven by national and European policy. An important aspect of The Merseyside and Halton Partnership’s work is to influence these policies and encourage those which can help us to develop more sustainable waste services for the people of Merseyside and Halton. Governmental bodies test their ideas for new policies by consulting with local authorities and a wide range of other stakeholders. These exercises provide a good opportunity for the Partnership to put its opinions across.

The Partnership responds to a wide range of consultations and expresses it’s view on how policies can be improved. New consultation exercises launched by DEFRA and other Governmental bodies are monitored and relevant consultations are reported to the Senior Officer Working Group (SOWG) meetings. The Partnership discusses the implications from each consultation and comes to a decision on whether a response should be drawn up. Final responses from 2010 onwards can be found below.
