Otterspool to close for a month - 1 Oct 2010
Otterspool Household Waste Recycling Centre in Liverpool is set to close for four weeks from October 31st so improvement works can be carried out.Officers at Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority (MWDA) and its contractor Veolia Environmental Services – who provide the Centre – are carrying out a major improvement at the site on Jericho Lane near the waterfront.
The Recycling Centre will be closed for four weeks from Sunday 31st October at 5.00pm so that essential maintenance work can take place. Works include re-laying the concrete floor of the whole site, improving site drainage and installing new signage.
Carl Beer, Director of Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority, said: “In order for the whole site floor to re-laid and resurfaced all of the equipment and containers must be removed from the site. This will ensure that the resulting new surface will be even and robust. Closing the whole site will ensure that the work can take place safely and quickly.
“We apologise to householders for any inconvenience it might cause but these works are essential, we didn’t have a choice.”
Alex Paterson, Director of Veolia Environmental Services Merseyside and Halton, said: "This temporary site closure was necessary in order to complete all the works as quickly as possible. We have provided directions to the nearest sites at Huyton and South Sefton and apologise for any inconvenience caused to all of our site users at this time."
For the duration of the works MWDA is directing residents in need of a Recycling Centre to the facilities closest to Otterspool, namely:
Huyton - Ellis Ashton Street, Huyton Industrial Estate, L36 6BJ (8.5 miles from Otterspool, approximately 15 minutes*)
South Sefton - Irlam Road, Bootle, L20 4AE (7.3 miles from Otterspool, approximately 10 minutes*)
